My photo
I am a girl/woman/human who has random thoughts. Sometimes you can find me here rambling, other times i might have useful stuff to say. For the most part, my friends and family can see what I might be up to in the days events. Or, for sake of sakes, its all made up... only i know.. and MAYBE a select few of you! Either way~ I am an American living in Australia. Oh, and any photo you see on this blog IS NOT FOR YOUR USE. If I have taken the photo myself or have permission to use it, YOU CAN NOT USE IT FOR YOURSELF. So be warned... and just dont use my damn photos.

Marvin K Mooney

Tomorrow I am off to the Dr. Seuss exhibition held at a local gallery. I was told about the exhibition by a wonderful friend...she and I enjoy many long winded chats about art, society, and so forth. I had not heard of the Dr. Seuss collection before she stumbled upon it and enlightened me that it was in town for the next few weeks.

I remember Dr. Seuss books and the impact they had on me as a child. I loved his way of telling a story, and the wackiness of which he would tell a tale to his reader. When I was just a little girl, and had to have stories read to me... one of my favorites was "Marvin K Mooney will you please go now!" It seemed that no matter which Dr. Seuss book you were being read, the story teller would always have hand gestures and fluctuations in the voice when telling the tale.. how could you not get excited and tell those stories with pizazz?

When I graduated, my aunt L gave me the "Oh, the places you'll go" book. It was wonderful, and I cherish it to this day. I think it was one of the neatest gifts I received, such accomplishment achieved, and yet, it brought me back to my childhood of when I read the book and thinking of all the possibilities ahead of me.. and then years later, upon graduation, I had those possibilities ahead of me again... thank you aunt L for that beautiful gift.

Anyway, I am off to the exhibition tomorrow. I cant wait to see whats in store... if you would like a sneak peak.. check out the website...

I will let you know how it goes and what wacky wonderful things I stumble upon... I'm having breakfast near the gallery tomorrow.. I wonder if the local restaurants are offering "Green eggs and ham" for the daily special?

I re-read The Lorax last night - it was the only Dr Seuss that was bought just for me, and was not a hand-me-down from my brothers!
The Lorax is a wonderful cautionary tale of what can happen when rampant industrialisation is allowed to destroy the environment. Too heavy for a 6 year old? Definitely not. That, I believe is part of Dr Seuss' magic, that a 6 year old can understand an important message when it's told in such a clever entertaining way.
The Sneetches is another great example, tackling as it does racism, and how superficial differences between people are unimportant- we are all essentially the same underneath.

Enjoy the exhibition, it's fantastic. And look out for the sketch of The Martini Bird - it's gorgeous. Oh yeah, and the mounted head of the google-eyed tasmanian wolghast(?) - it'd be so cute on your wall!
